Due to a sudden unexpected challenge to my health we are downsizing the stud.
We have some lovely stock available for purchase including one of our stallions. Full details and photos can be found on the For Sale Page. Genuine inquiries only please.
On the performance front Dana Hawkins and Ty Gwyn Chantilly finished 3rd in the Ridden Welsh and 4th in the Purebred Section of the Welsh National Performance Competition. Congratulations to them.
Congratulations also to Micayla Windle and Ty Gwyn Glen Mohr on their 4th placing in the Northland Winter Showhunter series. It as Glen’s first attempt at show hunter.
We also received news that the stallion Ty Gwyn Armani has been shown successfully in hand for his Invercargill owners winning Supreme Champion Welsh Exhibit at Southland A & P Show 2011. Congratulations to his connections.
Our first foals are due Mid October and we are looking forward to see what the stork brings!
We must apologise for the lateness of updates,.. ponies have taken a back seat here over the past season, due to the arrival of a budding lead rein rider.!!
The “for sale and news pages” have been updated.
Firstly, on a sad note we lost two of our purebred mares. Ty Gwyn Filigree and her half sister Ty Gwyn Chanelle both passed away. Both mares were out of our foundation mare, Glynmawr Fragrance, and will be very much missed.
On a happier note we welcomed home Ty Gwyn Sheridan, a family favourite. Sheri has been competing under saddle for the past few seasons and it is very nice to have her home in the paddock where she has quickly stamped her authority! We want to thank the Butturini family for looking after her and loving her like their own.
Ty Gwyn Valencia
Last season’s only foal was a beautiful chestnut filly by Mithril Glenfiddich x Hazelmere Vanita, so all Australian bloodlines. Valencia was shown once at the North Island Welsh Foal Show for Champion Section B Foal. This filly is a fabulous addition to the Section B breeding pool in New Zealand. She is a super type and will mature over 13 hands. We are very happy with the cross and she will be retained as a future breeding mare. Interestingly, Valencia’s half sister, Mirinda Miss Money Penny was First Ridden Pony of the Year at Barastoc 2010.
Ty Gwyn Sherida
Supreme Partbred Welsh Exhibit
2011 North Island Welsh Pony & Cob Show
Judge: Michael Gates, Australia
We decided to take her down to the North Island Welsh Show for one last outing before she retires to the breeding paddock. We were thrilled when she won the dry mare class. It was the biggest class of the day, full of some lovely mares. She went on to be Champion Adult and then Supreme Partbred Exhibit Overall. Sheri was very capable shown for us by Micayla Windle. The pair also claimed the Child Handler Sash for 13-16 year olds. Micayla also rode her own Ty Gwyn Glen Mhor to pick up Reserve Champion Rider.
Ty Gwyn Rosanna
Llandovery Doodah presented us with another gorgeous filly by Mithril Glenfiddich. A chestnut with lots of chrome and a very nice up to height type.
Ty Gwyn Royal Diva
A few days later, our homebred Renaissance had her first purebred foal for us by Bendigo Royal Emperor. This is also the first cross of Bendigo Royal Emperor over Mithril Glenfiddich mares and we are delighted with the result. Ty Gwyn Royal Diva is also a chestnut. She has been shown once at Whangarei A & P Show to win her riding pony class and placing third in her welsh class. A very good achievement considering she was up against yearlings.
Hazelmere Vanita foaled last with a dark brown colt by Mithril Glenfiddich. He is a lovely boy. (Photo to come.)
Josephine Elworthy-Jones reports that her mare Hololio Invaluable has produced a super bay colt by Bendigo Royal Emperor that she is delighted with.
The following foals are expected for the 2011 breeding season:
Bendigo Royal Emperor x Ty Gwyn Flamingo
Bendigo Royal Emperor x Ty Gwyn Sheridan
Bendigo Royal Emperor x Ty Gwyn Renaissance
Mithril Glenfiddich x Llandovery Doodah
On the performance front, we have caught up with a few of Glen’s offspring who are out and about.
Ty Gwyn Chantilly (x T.G Chanelle) is going really well for her rider Dana Hawkins. Finishing 2nd in the winter show hunter series. The pair was also selected and attended the National Show hunter Championships in Levin.
Ty Gwyn Chantilly
Ty Gwyn Catalina
Chantilly’s older half sister, the Welsh Cob, Catalina now resides in the South Island with the Jeff Family. She has been out on the showing circuit, being Reserve Champion Saddle Hunter at the Spring Into Action Show and Reserve Champion Novice Saddle Hunter at Ashburton A & P.
Ty Gwyn Glen Mhor
Ty Gwyn Glen Mhor was broken to saddle over winter. This fellow had a big frame to grow into and after some rather “awkward” growing stages; he is maturing into a lovely pony. He attended his first show for Reserve Champion Pony and carried his rider to Champion Rider. He followed this up two weeks later with Champion Led and Champion Ridden Pony at Kamo Pony Club Open Show Day and Reserve Champion Novice Pony at Kaikohe A & P Show and Warkworth A & P Shows. This boy just floats along and is working beautifully under saddle. He has also been taught to jump and just like his big sister, he really has a amazing technique.
Ty Gwyn Marquis
T.G Marquis has now also been broken in. Many thanks to Amanda Tombleson for sending us these awesome photos of Mark. He has since been sold on to family who will be showing him under saddle. Marc attended his first show under saddle recently at the Manawatu Showing Championships. He came away with the Champion Saddle Hunter and 4th in the Champion of Champions. A great start for his ridden career
Ty Gwyn Martini
Mark’s full sister Martini has been sold to Taranaki, she is going very well for her new owners and we look forward to following her progress as she matures. She has been out this season for three champions and one supreme. We are very pleased for her new owners.
Ty Gwyn Royal Consort …with his little rider, Cadence.
Sire: Bendigo Royal Emperor
Dam: Llandovery Doodah
Basil was sold as a young pony to a caring knowledgeable home and is the epitome of doing the backing correctly and coupled with a sound sensible temperament, resulting in a photo that reflects the complete package.
Ty Gwyn Lagerfield
T.G Lagerfeld now resides in Tauranga and is doing well in flat and jumping classes and is very much loved by his rider. He was 2nd in the 4 weeks show jumping series and is currently winning the Tauranga series.
Ty Gwyn Allure
Thanks to Amanda for these great photos of Allure jumping some big fences at the National Equestrian Centre in Taupo. Big fences for this gutsy little mare.
Our mare and sales pages have been updated.
Thanks to Leanne Windle for sending us these lovely portrait photos of Micayla and her Ty Gwyn ponies, Philadelphia and Flamingo. Both mares are daughters of Mithril Glenfiddich.
Ty Gwyn Flamingo
Ty Gwyn Philadelphia
We are very excited to announce that the beautifully bred Australian import – Hazelmere Vanita has taken up residence in the North. Vanita is on lease from Margaret Fullerton-Smith of Taurimu Stud.
Vanita is in foal to Mithril Glenfiddich for a 2009 foal. This will be her first Welsh Section B foal in New Zealand and her first purebred foal for some time. We are really looking forward to this cross and are expecting something special.
The Welsh Section B Colt – Ty Gwyn Armani was sold to Invercargill and made the journey from one end of the country to the other prior to Christmas. Ty Gwyn Marquis has been sold to Taupo and will be broken in over the winter period. Ty Gwyn Glen Mohr is staying local and he too will be broken in shortly. We look forward to watching their progress.
Ty Gwyn Philadelphia started the season very successfully and was Reserve Champion Junior Hunter at Bay of Islands Show. She also competed successfully in showing classes, show hunter and show jumping. Unfortunately in December she injured herself and was out the remainder of the season.
Ty Gwyn Philadelphia – Whangarei A & P Show
Philly’s owner, Micayla Windle has taken over the ride on Ty Gwyn Flamingo. They got to know each other over the New Year and have really clicked. At their very first outing they were Reserve Champion Novice Ridden Pony at Kaikohe Show, followed up by Reserve Champion Led Pony and Champion Welsh at Warkworth Show, Reserve Champion Junior Ridden, Champion Purebred Welsh, Champion Ridden Welsh and Supreme Welsh Exhibit at Northern Wairoa Show, Champion Novice and Champion Open Pony at Kaitaia Show and Champion Ridden Pony at Waiotira Ribbon Day. Ming has now commenced jumping and has a fantastic technique. She has competed at a couple of show hunter events for a win and several placings. She has been turned out for a well earned rest.
